NaniRossi

The NANIROSSI troupe was informally founded in 2003 by Matteo Mazzei and Elena Fresch. It stands out as the first Italian troupe composed entirely of artists with degrees in contemporary circus.
These artists trained at the Vertigo Academy in November 2023. Both Matteo and Elena were born in Genoa and Pordenone, respectively. They shared an exceptional educational journey. This journey included classes and practical training.
It began with a diploma from the Turin Circus School in 2005. Their talent was honed under the guidance of teachers such as Pierre Byland and Leo Bassi.
They then perfected their “mano a mano” acrobatic technique at the Ecole de Cirque de Sion with Zygmunt Biegaj. Their training was enriched with courses in acrobatics, balance, clowning, and aerial arts at renowned institutions such as the Madrid Circus School (Carampa) and through international workshops with teachers such as Pascal Angelier and Slava Kukushkin.
Over the years, NANIROSSI have garnered significant accolades with their signature act, the “Nanirossi Show”: first prize from the jury at the Sestriere Clown Festival, first prize at the Ascona Street Artists Festival and the ORTACIRCUS Festival, at the MILANO CLOWN FESTIVAL, at the IN TRANSITO event, at the Teatro Akropolis (Genoa),
They have received the “Best Open-Air Performance Award” at the Haifa Kids Festival and the “Urban Ljubljana 2017 Excellence Award” at the Ana Desetnica Festival in Ljubljana (SLO), as well as many other awards that attest to their artistic excellence.
In 2012, they founded the Artematta association. Through it, they created a festival called Borgomatto. They also organize circus classes for adults and children in Lunigiana.
They produce and create the children’s theater performance “Sogni in Scatola.” With this performance, they tour the largest Italian theaters.
They also created and produced the show “R4 fuga per la Libertà” in collaboration with their friend and artist Michele Fois, which won the “cantieri di strada” award from the Federaz.Naz.Artisti di Strada.
In 2018, they were among the founding members of Teatro nelle Foglie, a contemporary circus company with a big top recognized by the Ministry and the Region of Tuscany.
In addition to their festival successes, they have appeared on television and worked as acrobats in operas directed by distinguished directors, including Friedkin’s “Aida” at the Teatro Regio in Turin, “The Barber of Seville” and “The Damnation of Faust” by H. De Ana, and F. Zeffirelli’s “Turandot” at the Arena di Verona and the Royal Opera House in Muscat (Oman).
NANIROSSI have had a career full of successes. They continue to enchant audiences with their own productions, such as “R4 fuga per la libertà” and “Sogni in Scatola.” They bring the art of contemporary circus, with their unique and unmistakable style, to the general public in theaters and squares around the world.
