Luca Regina began his artistic career in 1991 in Turin. Enamored with the circus, juggling, and magic, he decided to study at the Moscow State Circus School, which trained him as a performer and acrobat, before going on to deepen his knowledge of comedy at the renowned Atelier of Philippe Radic.
In 1993, he began an artistic collaboration with Tino Fimiani, and Lucchettino was formed, earning the duo numerous awards and high-profile collaborations (with Jango Edwards, Arturo Brachetti, Marco Berry, Zelig, and others).
He has also performed at all the major street theater festivals in Italy and Europe, at the New Orleans Fringe Festival (2010), in Mexico for Caruana de la Risa and for the Zapatista communities, in Bosnia for post-war rehabilitation programs, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and in many other contexts.
In 2010, he studied at the Nouveau Clown Institute in Barcelona, founded and directed by Jango Edwards, who has always been his artistic role model. Since 2017, he has been engaged with environmental issues, which are taking up an increasingly larger part of his work as a clown and performer.
I am a clown who dreams of a different world and who puts the universal language of comedy, sleight of hand, and the art of laughter—to convey a message of ecological sustainability even to the youngest children, with authenticity and freshness, and without ever adopting a tone of expertise or academicism.
The clown is not just the one who makes us laugh or moves us—concludes Luca Regina—but is that figure who has always existed throughout human history, perhaps in different attire, who was allowed to mock the powerful, criticize the law or customs, or even, as in this case, convey timely messages that often go unheard.
This is where the concept of “greenEcomedy” comes from, which recalls the term “green economy,” but expresses the concept of a comedic and entertaining performance (comedy, precisely) that addresses “green” issues through everyday objects and tools such as trash, bins, used bottles, etc.
This concern for the environment is not, for me, a passing fad, but a sensitivity that has always been with me, not only in my work but also in my daily life. Now I feel the need to use my performances to help spread this awareness as much as possible, before it’s too late.”
